France: Nationwide rail worker strike March 22
The GCT union calls for a nationwide rail worker strike on March 22; plan alternative means of transportation
Event
The General Confederation of Labor (CGT) union has announced that a nationwide rail worker strike will take place on Thursday, March 22. At least 90 percent of employees at SNCF, the national rail operator, are expected to take part. As such, significant rail disruptions (reduced services, delays, overcrowding) are possible nationwide. Increased road traffic congestion is also possible if large amounts of commuters are forced to seek alternate means of transportation.
Advice
Individuals in France are advised to be prepared for rail disruptions (e.g. be prepared to use alternative modes of transportation) and allow for extra time to reach their destinations.
