Warning

Event

All flight operations at the Chandigarh International Airport (IXC) in Chandigarh (Punjab state) will be suspended from Monday, February 12, through Monday, February 26. The airport is being closed to allow the runway to be expanded from 2743 m to 3169 m (9000 ft to 14,400 ft), which will allow for larger aircraft to operate out of IXC. Around 80,000 passengers are expected to be affected by the scheduled closure. International flights will likely be rerouted to Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport (ATQ) in Amristar. Officials are also anticipating significantly higher demand on regional railway services throughout the closure.

Advice

Individuals traveling to, from, or through Chandigarh are advised to contact their airline for further details and to expect increased demand on other forms of transportation in the region.
