Peru: Deadly violence and roadblocks amid farmer strike
Farmers launch indefinite strike in Junín, Huancavelica, Pasco, and Huánuco regions Jan. 30; roadblocks and deadly clashes

Farmers in Peru’s Junín, Huancavelica, Pasco, and Huánuco regions launched an indefinite strike on Tuesday, January 30. The striking farmers have erected a number of roadblocks throughout the affected areas, leading to transportation disruptions as well as provoking violent clashes with security forces. At least two people have been shot and killed in these clashes and others have been injured. The locations of the roadblocks are available on the Peruvian Ministry of Transportation website.

The protest is being held to denounce the low price of potatoes.
