Thunderstorms and high winds are forecast across most of Thailand on Friday, February 23, and Saturday, February 24, affecting the Northern, Northeastern, Eastern, Central, and Southern regions of the country. Associated heavy rains and hail are forecast for the Northern, Northeastern, and Central regions. Among the provinces most at risk of storm damage are Nakhon Ratchasima (including Phimai, Sikhio, Kham Thale So, and Chum Phuang districts) and Nan (notably Mueang Nan district). Storm damages and associated power outages and traffic disruptions are possible throughout the abovementioned regions in the coming hours and days.
Context
Storms have struck several villages in Phimai district since February 20, resulting in consequent damages to homes.
Thailand's northeast monsoon season, from November to March, brings cooler temperatures and generally less chance of rainfall for the north of the country. However, the more exposed Gulf Coast of the southern peninsula is impacted by strong winds and heavy rains.
