China: Driverless subway trial run in Shanghai

New metro line with driverless trains tested end of March in Shanghai

A new metro line serving six stations with driverless trains is to be tested by the end of March in Shanghai. Stretching over 6 km (3.7 mi), the Automated People Mover (APM) system will link Huizhen Road and Shendu Highway Station, where passengers can transfer to line 8.

Context

Currently, Shanghai has the world's longest metro network, at 666 km (413 mi). The APM system has already been introduced in Beijing and Guangzhou.
