France: Hostage situation in Trèbes (Aube) March 23

Event

A hostage situation is reportedly underway as of the morning of Friday, March 23, in a supermarket in Trèbes (Aude department). An armed individual reportedly opened fire on two police officers before taking refuge in the store - a Super U - around 11:15 (local time). Security forces are on the scene and have cordoned of the area. At least one police officer has been shot.

According to an official, the assailant has declared his support for Islamic State (IS).
