France: Series of rail strikes threatened in April and June /update 1

Employees at SNCF, France’s national rail operator, threaten to strike two days out of five April 3 to June 28

Unions representing employees at the SNCF, the French national rail operator, have threatened to launch a series of strikes beginning on Tuesday, April 3. The strikes are set to take place two out of every five days until June 28. The current schedule is as follows:

  • April 3, 4, 8, 9, 13, 14, 18, 19, 23, 24, 28, and 29 
  • May 3, 4, 8, 9, 13, 14, 18, 19, 23, 24, 28, and 29 
  • June 2, 3, 7, 8, 12, 13, 17, 18, 22, 23, 27, and 28

If the strikes go ahead, significant rail disruptions are to be anticipated (e.g. reduced services, delays, and overcrowding on available trains).

As a reminder, SCNF employees are also expected to strike on March 22, amid a national public sector strike also affecting air traffic control (March 21-23) and Paris public transit.
