Mexico: Paisano program to augment traveler assistance during Holy Week

Mexican National Institute of Migration (INM) to augment traveler assistance through Paisano program during Holy Week and until April 9

Informational

Event

The Mexican National Institute of Migration (INM) has redesigned its Guía Paisano (country guide) program and will be distributing helpful information to travelers at selected sites visiting the country during the Christian Holy Week, from Sunday, March 25, to Sunday, April 1. The traveler assistance initiative, which will be implemented until April 9, will reportedly disseminate tourism information at hundreds of information booths, observation points, and rest stops in cities and municipalities throughout the country.

Vehicles with foreign license plates in Mexico City and in 18 adjacent municipalities of the State of Mexico are required to adhere to the Hoy No Circula program, restricting car use in the capital; such individuals, however, can acquire a "Paisano Tourist Pass" to use their vehicle for 14 days.

Context

Christian Holy Week will take place between Sunday, March 25 (Palm Sunday), and Sunday, April 1 (Easter Sunday).

Advice

Those present in Mexico during the Holy Week period are advised to exercise an increased level of vigilance regarding crime (e.g. carry only small amounts of cash, leave copies of passports/credit cards in a safe location, etc.) and to allow for additional time to reach their destinations.
