Singapore: Uber to offer new carpooling service
Uber to introduce new carpooling service “Uber Commute” March 15
Event
The ride-sharing company Uber will launch its new "Uber Commute" carpooling service on Thursday, March 15. The service will allow motorists heading to work to pick up passengers to cover costs such as fuel. Uber Commute rides are limited to between 05:00 and 22:00 (local time) on weekdays and drivers are not allowed to pick up multiple passengers.
Context
Unlike services such as UberX, where drivers pay about 20 percent of their fares to Uber, Uber Commute drivers will collect the entire fare, which is about half the price of an equivalent UberX ride. UberX is Uber's standard private-hire car service, which matches a licensed private-hire driver to a single passenger.
Advice
As a reminder, individuals staying in Singapore for longer than one year must apply for a Singaporean driving license.
