UK: Increased security for flights from Egypt and Turkey

Increased security checks for passengers flying from Egypt or Turkey to the UK; extra baggage inspection

Warning

Event

The UK government has asked airlines operating flights to the country from Egypt and Turkey to implement increased security measures. As such, a final baggage inspection will be carried out at the boarding gate.

As a reminder, there are still restrictions on traveling with larger electronic devices (laptops, tablets, e-readers, etc.) on flights from Egypt and Turkey that do NOT depart from the following airports: Antalya (AYT), Bodrum (BJV), Istanbul-Sabiha Gökçen (SAW), Izmir (ADB), Luxor (LXR), Hurghada (HRG), or Marsa Alam (RMF). More details regarding this policy are available at the UK government’s website.

Passengers who can travel with electronic devices in their carry-on luggage (i.e. passengers on flights departing from the above airports), however, may be asked to power them on during the above-mentioned security checks. If the devices are not charged (have no battery) or otherwise cannot be turned on, they may have to be checked; in some cases the traveler may be prevented from boarding.

Advice

Individuals are advised to plan accordingly and contact their airlines for more information.
