Warning

Event

Another winter storm - Quinn - is set to hit the northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions on Wednesday, March 7, and Thursday, March 8. The National Weather Service has begun issuing storm alerts for areas from northern Maine to northern Maryland, including the New York City and Boston metropolitan areas. Up to 30 cm (12 in) of snow is forecast for parts of northern New England. The storm is currently - as of March 6 - bringing blizzard conditions to the Midwest region.

Significant flight disruptions are to be anticipated at airports throughout the area, including in Boston (BOS), New York-Newark (JKF, LGA, EWR), Philadelphia (PHL), Providence (PVD), and Hartford (BDL). Rail and public transit disruptions as well as hazardous driving conditions are also to be anticipated. Large-scale power outages are likely.

Context

The northeast has only just recovered from Winter Storm Riley, which struck March 2-3. Seven deaths have been attributed to the storm, which also resulted in major flight and ground transportation disruptions and left more than 2 million people without power.

Advice

Individuals in the area are advised to confirm flight and rail reservations, be cautious when driving, keep abreast of weather alerts, and adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
