Warning

Event

Several groups fighting for affordable housing are planning a march in Ouagadougou on Thursday, April 5. Demonstrators are planning to gather outside the Ouagadougou Labor Council at 08:00 (local time) before marching to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning. An increased security presence and localized transportation disruptions are to be expected surrounding the march route.

Context

The march has been planned by the Coalition nationale de lutte contre la vie chère (CCVC), Coalition des associations pour la défense du droit au logement (CADDL), and the Comité de défense des acquis de l'insurrection populaire (CDAIP). The groups are critical of the government’s response to the current housing crisis and demand that authorities return stolen land and construct affordable and decent housing for residents.

Advice

Individuals in Ouagadougou are advised to avoid all protests, as even peaceful demonstrations can turn violent with little notice.
