No wider threat following April 23 car-ramming attack in Toronto (ten killed); site of attack remains closed as of April 24

Canadian federal authorities have announced that they do not believe there is a larger threat to national security following the deadly car-ramming incident that occurred in Toronto on Monday, April 23. During the attack, which began shortly before 13:30 (local time), the driver of a van drove on a sidewalk on Yonge Street, located in the northern district of North York, for over 1.6 km (1 mi) towards the south, killing at least ten pedestrians and injuring 16 others. The attack began at the corner of Yonge and Finch Avenue East. The driver was arrested at the scene.
Police have not yet said whether they are treating the incident as an act of terror.
The stretch of Yonge Street where the attack took place - as well as the nearby North York Civic Centre, Mel Lastman Square, and Douglas Snow Aquatic Centre - will remain closed on April 24.
