Activists to stage anti-NATO protest in Montreal, Canada, from 17:30 Nov. 22 amid increased security; localized traffic disruptions likely.
Activists affiliated with the Convergence of Anti-Capitalist Struggles (Convergence des Luttes Anticapitalistes, CLAC) and Divestment for Palestine (Desinvestir pour la Palestine, D4P) groups are planning to stage a protest at the Place des Arts in Montreal from 17:30 Nov. 22. Protest participants will reportedly meet near the intersection of Rue Sainte-Catherine and Rue Saint-Urbain. The purpose of the demonstration is to denounce NATO as the NATO Parliamentary Assembly gathers in Montreal for its 70th Annual Session Nov. 22-25. The number of people who would participate in the demonstration was not immediately clear.
Law enforcement officers have deployed to downtown Montreal to ensure public safety. Localized traffic disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the Place des Arts. Authorities may close local roads on short notice to facilitate the protest and the flow of vehicular traffic. Clashes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out.
Avoid the protest as a precaution. Consider taking alternative routes to circumvent the affected area and any disruptions. Allow extra time for travel in Montreal. Adhere to all instructions issued by local officials.
