Venezuelan opposition supporters to stage rallies in multiple cities throughout the Americas on Jan. 9. Associated disruptions likely.
Members of the Venezuelan diaspora and supporters of the country's opposition presidential candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, plan to stage rallies in multiple cities throughout North, Central, South America and the Caribbean on Jan. 9. They are demanding Urrutia to be sworn in as President of Venezuela on Jan. 10, following the results of the July 2024 presidential election. Incumbent President Nicolas Maduro is scheduled to be inaugurated for a third term, despite allegations of electoral fraud by the opposition, independent observers, and multiple governments in the region.

Rallies in Colombia, as well as in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Lima, Peru, Miami, US and Santiago, Chile, are likely to gather several thousand people. In most other locations, several hundred people are likely to participate.
Heightened security near the protest locations is likely, with some associated transport and business disruptions. Some scuffles are possible, especially in demonstrations near Venezuelan embassies.
Heed instructions from authorities. Leave the area at the first sign of violence. Plan for delays and alternative routes if operating near the impacted locations on Jan. 9.
