Warning

Event

Heavy rains and hail hit parts of Israel and the West Bank on Wednesday, April 25. Flash flooding was reported in southern parts of the country, including the Negev desert, Dimona, and Arad. A teenager was killed in Negev near the Mamshit National Park after being swept away from his encampment. In the West Bank, a Palestinian girl was also killed by floodwater near Bethlehem. Flooding caused parts of Route 40 and Route 90 to be closed where roads were submerged. According to the Israel Meteorological Service, additional rain is forecast through Thursday, April 26, across the country. Further flooding and transportation disruptions are possible, particularly in southern areas.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to keep abreast of the situation, to avoid areas directly hit by flooding, and to adhere to any orders issued by the local authorities or their home governments. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult.
