Pakistan: Violent protests break out in Karachi April 17

Crowds of people gathered in Karachi on Tuesday, April 17, to protest the recent murder of a young girl near the city. Demonstrators clashed with police officers in the Manghopir area of the city after refusing to disperse. Officers fired live ammunition into the air and used tear gas and batons to eventually remove people from the area. At least one person was killed and 17 people, including police officers, were also wounded. Additional demonstrations are possible in the coming days.

Police officials announced on Tuesday that an investigation into the murder is ongoing and two suspects have been detained for questioning.
