Construction worker strike launched April 18 continues as of April 25; associated protests resume April 24

An indefinite strike launched by the Suntracs and Capac construction unions April 18 continues as of Wednesday, April 24. The Suntracs union threatened to intensify the strike beginning on Monday and disruptive demonstrations took place on Tuesday on major thoroughfares throughout the country. Further marches by striking workers and associated roadblocks are possible in the coming hours and days.

A general assembly of striking workers is planned for April 30 in the capital Panama City’s Porras Park.

Workers are demanding a salary increase.
