Americas: Venezuelan activists to rally in multiple cities throughout the region on Sept. 28

Supporters of the Venezuelan opposition to demonstrate in cities across the Americas on Sept. 28. Increased security likely.

Venezuelan opposition activists and their supporters plan to hold rallies in several cities across the Americas on Sept. 28. The purpose of the action is to demand the recognition of Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia as the winner of Venezuela's July 28 presidential elections and reverse electoral authorities' proclamation of incumbent President Nicolas Maduro as the winner amid allegations of election fraud.

Rallies are scheduled in dozens of major cities throughout the region, with the largest gatherings likely including those taking place at the following locations and start times:

Most of the gatherings will probably draw several hundred participants; however, those in certain locations such as Miami, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Santiago, and Lima, could see attendance in the thousands. Heightened security and transport disruptions are likely near the protest locations.

Avoid all demonstration locations as a standard security precautions. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Allow extra time to reach destinations near protest sites.
