General strike and marches in Colón province (Panama) April 19; avoid all demonstrations and prepare for significant disruptions

The Frente Amplio political party has called for another general strike and protests to be held in the province of Colón on Thursday, April 19. If the strike goes ahead, major commercial, transportation, and traffic disruptions are likely, notably in the city of Colón; clashes and other forms of violence are possible. Such was the case during a general strike held March 13-14; at least five people were reportedly wounded, including four police officers, while 45 others were arrested.

The strike is being held to demand action from the national government regarding a number of issues including infrastructure, health, and housing.
