Heavy rain and possible flooding forecast for various regions of Peru April 14-15

The national weather service SENAMHI is warning of heavy rain and storms expected to hit a large swathe of the country on Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15. Rainfall of up to 6 cm (2.4 in) per day is forecast, along with thunderstorms, winds of up to 50 km/h (30 mph), and hail. SENAMHI has issued red alerts, the highest level, for the north of San Martín region. Lower orange and yellow are alerts have been issued for the following regions: Amazonas, Áncash, Ayacucho, Cajamarca, Cusco, Huancavelica, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, La Libertad, Lambayeque, Lima, Loreto, Madre de Dios, Pasco, Piura, and Ucayali.

Advice

Individuals in affected areas are advised to follow weather forecasts and adhere to any advice issued by the local authorities. In the event of flooding keep in mind that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous; 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock an adult over.
