Hazardous sea and weather conditions were already reported on Tuesday morning (local time), including winds up to 130 km/h (80 mph), sea swells up to 3.5 m (11 ft), and heavy rainfall; associated flooding is likely. Local authorities are advising against travel within the island until the storm passes. All schools, universities, and a number of roads have been closed. Transportation disruptions are to be anticipated, including major flight disruptions at Roland Garros International Airport (RUN).

Context

The island experiences an annual cyclone season from November through April, during which time tropical storms and torrential rain can result in significant material damage.
