Singapore: ASEAN Summit April 25-28

Event

Singapore is set to host the 32nd Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit from Wednesday, April 25, through Saturday, April 28. Additional security measures will be implemented ahead of the arrival of leaders from across Southeast Asia.

The summit is scheduled to be held at the Istana (presidential residence) and at the Shangri-La hotel. Local police have announced the demarcation of special restricted zones around the two locations which limit what items individuals can bring into the zones during the summit. Prohibited items include explosives, bullhorns, flags, and big posters. Road closures are expected in the vicinity of these locations, along with associated transportation disruptions.

Context

Representatives from the ten ASEAN member states will meet to discuss regional and international issues during the summit.

Individuals present in Singapore during the April 25-28 summit are advised to anticipate heightened security measures throughout the city and increased traffic congestion (particularly at major travel hubs), and allow for additional travel time.
