Thailand: Storms forecast across the country April 24-27

Strong storms forecast across Thailand April 24-27; northeastern areas to be particularly affected

Warning

Event

The Thai Meteorological Department has issued a warning for strong summer storms forecast to hit much of the country - including the capital Bangkok - from Tuesday, April 24, to Friday, April 27. According to current forecasts, the north of the country, notably the northeast, will be the worst hit by thunderstorms and strong winds. A comprehensive list of affected areas is available here. Power outages, localized flooding, damages to property, and transportation disruptions are possible.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm travel reservations, and remain vigilant when driving in hazardous conditions.

In the event of flooding, remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
