Strong storms forecast for several parts of Thailand April 15-18; power outages and transportation disruptions possible

Warning

Event

Strong summer storms are forecast to affect parts of Thailand from Sunday, April 15, to Wednesday, April 18, and may potentially include hail. According to the Thai Meteorological Department, storms are forecast to affect provinces in the North, Northeast, and Central regions of the country, including Bangkok, on Monday, April 16, and Tuesday, April 17; on Wednesday, storms are forecast to hit the North, Central, and South regions. A comprehensive list of affected areas is available here from the Thai Meteorological Department. Power outages, localized flooding, damages to property, and transportation disruptions are possible.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports, confirm travel reservations, allow additional time for travel, and remain vigilant when driving in hazardous conditions.

Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products; all items having come into contact with the water should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
