Argentina-Uruguay: Storms forecast in northern areas May 31 /update 1

Storm alerts in effect in northern Argentina and northern Uruguay May 31; flooding, power outages, transportation disruptions possible

The Argentinean and Uruguayan meteorological authorities have issued alerts for their respective countries due to storms forecast to continue Thursday, May 31.

In Argentina, alerts are in effect in central and eastern Chaco province, Corrientes province, the north of Entre Ríos province, central and eastern Formosa province, and northeastern Santa Fe province.

The Uruguayan meteorological institute INUMET has issued yellow alerts - the third highest level - for the north the country. The alerts are in place in all or parts of the departments of Artigas, Cerro Largo, Paysandú, Rivera, Salto, Tacuarembó, and Treinta y Tres.

Heavy rain, thunder and lighting, and violent winds are expected throughout the day. Associated flooding, power outages, and transportation disruptions are possible.
