Sweden: Wildfire warnings issued for southern areas May 22

Sweden’s national meteorological service issues wildfire warnings for Götaland, Svealand, and large parts of Norrland May 22

Warning

Event

SMHI, Sweden’s national meteorological service, issued warnings for grass and forest fires in Götaland, Svealand, and most of Norrland on Tuesday, May 22. The risk of wildfires has increased this month due to high temperatures and exceptionally dry weather. Authorities have issued bans on lighting fires in public places (except for in specifically designated fire pits) in some areas, including in Stockholm, Gotland, and Gothenburg. Also on Tuesday, two forest fires broke out in Västmanland and Uppsala; both fires were brought under control by emergency services.

Advice

Individuals in the affected areas are advised to keep abreast of the situation and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities.
