Chad: Judge strike continues; protest possible in N’Djamena June 16 /update 1

As of Monday, June 11, a strike by judges and other judicial sector workers continues throughout the country. The strike was launched on May 28 to denounce insecurity following an armed attack carried out by a police officer targeting a lawyer in  Doba (Logone Oriental region), who was transporting clients, on May 22. Lawyers, notaries, and bailiffs are all taking part.

Although the governor of the Logone Oriental region has been dismissed, one of the protesters’ demands, striking workers are also demanding that the police officer involved in the attack be charged. They have threatened to hold a protest in the capital N’Djamena on Saturday, June 16, to denounce this perceived impunity.
