Tropical Depression Carlotta to bring heavy rain to Michoacán, Guerrero, and Colima states June 18; flash flooding and landslides possible
Event
Storm Carlotta, which has weakened from a tropical storm into a tropical depression, is forecast to make landfall on the coast of Michoacán state around 13:00 (local time) on Monday, June 18. As of 04:00 on Monday, the storm was located approximately 55 km (30 mi) southwest of the port city of Lazaro Cardenas.
No tropical storm warnings remain in effect. However, according to the US-based National Hurricane Center, Carlotta is expected to bring up to 15 cm (6 in) of rain to coastal areas of Michoacán, Guerrero, and Colima (and up to 10 cm [4 in] to inland areas) on Monday, before dissipating by the end of the day. Flooding, landslides, and associated transportation disruptions are possible.
Context
The Pacific Hurricane Season extends from May 15 to November 30 (and the Atlantic Hurricane Season from June 1 to November 30), with the largest concentration of storms typically occurring between August and October.
