Heavy rain across the country June 13-17; localized flooding and travel disruptions possible

Warning

Event

The Taiwanese Central Weather Bureau has issued a warning over heavy rain forecast from Wednesday, June 13, through Sunday, June 18. The warning concerns 20 counties, with particularly heavy downpours expected in Chiayi, Nantou, and Yunlin (central Taiwan). Localized flooding and related travel disruptions are possible during this period. Further heavy rainfall is expected June 18-20.

Context

Torrential rain is common during the tropical storm/typhoon season in the western Pacific Ocean, which typically runs from May to October.

Advice

Individuals present in affected areas are advised to confirm travel reservations, to keep abreast of weather forecasts, and to adhere to any instructions issued by the local authorities. Remember that driving or walking through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and that floodwater may contain wastewater or chemical products.
