Thousands of people expected to celebrate Washington Capitals’ National Hockey League (NHL) championship victory in Washington, DC June 12; authorities to implement road closures

Thousands of people are expected to celebrate the recent championship victory of the Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League (NHL) playoffs in a parade in Washington, DC on Tuesday, June 12. The parade is slated to begin at 11:00 (local time) and will run on Constitution Avenue NW from the intersection of Constitution Avenue NW and 17th Street NW, and will culminate with a rally at the National Mall at 7th Street NW.

Extra Metro rail service is scheduled to be provided throughout the day on Tuesday to accommodate fans; crowded conditions may prompt Metro service disruptions. Dozens of road closures will also be in effect from 09:30 (local time) to 15:00 to facilitate the passing of the parade. The DC Circulator will also temporarily suspend service on its National Mall route all day on Tuesday. A heightened security presence is expected along the parade route.

Individuals in Washington, DC are advised to allow additional time to reach their destinations, prepare for transportation disruptions, and adhere to all directives issued by the local authorities (i.e. roadblocks).
