Security forces open fire on suspected militants attempting to infiltrate the Kupwara area of Kashmir state July 25; operations ongoing

Local media sources reported gunfire between security forces and suspected militants in the Keran district of the Kupwara area (Jammu and Kashmir state) at approximately 09:25 (local time) on Wednesday, July 25. According to initial reports, the militants were intercepted while attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC). No casualties have been reported and operations are ongoing as of 09:30.
Context
Clashes between Indian forces and both separatist militants and Pakistani forces have increased in the contested Kashmir region since the beginning of May 2018.
