Red alerts for snow in various southern regions of Peru July 18-21

The national weather service SENAMHI has issued red alerts, the highest level, for areas in the south of the country due to snow and rainfall forecast for Wednesday, July 18, through Saturday, July 21. The red alerts are in place in high elevation areas of the following regions: Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Moquegua, Puno, and Tacna. Up to 40 cm (16 in) of snowfall is expected in some areas on July 18, with up to 20 cm (8 in) forecast for both July 19 and July 20. Lower orange alerts are also in place in Apurimac, Ayacucho, and Junín.

Associated transportation disruptions and power outages are possible.
