Daily protests have been held in Chicago since the police shooting and death of a black man in the city's South Side on Saturday, July 14. Chicago police reportedly fatally shot Harith Augustus on Saturday afternoon (local time) on East 71st Street in the South Shore neighborhood after he escaped officers attempting to question him and appeared to reach for a holstered gun at his waist. Violent protests broke out on Saturday following the shooting, leaving several police officers wounded and resulting in the arrests of several protesters; peaceful protests, in which hundreds of people have participated, have been held in subsequent days.

Additional related protests and demonstrations are expected in the coming days. A heightened security presence and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated around demonstration sites.
