A weather depression located over the Bay of Bengal is forecast to bring heavy rain to various parts of Myanmar August 17-18, notably the states of Rakhine, Mon, and Kayin, as well as the region of Taninthayi. Thunderstorms are also expected August 17 in the regions of Sagaing, Mandalay, and Magway and in Shan state. Bago and Yangon will experience significant downpours as well.
Context
Heavy rainfall was already recorded earlier in the week in places like Belin (13 cm [5 in]), Shanywarthit (11 cm [4 in]), and Katineti (9 cm [4 in]), impacting daily life and means of transportation.
