Event

Suspected Boko Haram militants attacked the village of Munduri, located in the northeastern state of Borno, on Monday, August 6, killing seven people and burning down the village. The attackers arrived in Munduri, located approximately 15 km (10 mi) north of Maiduguri, in the late evening (local time) in trucks and on motorcycles. Among the victims was the village chief. Residents reported that militants looted the village before razing it.

Additional attacks by Boko Haram are likely in Borno and other northeastern states in the near-term.

Context

The northeastern region of Nigeria is highly susceptible to attacks by Boko Haram. While Nigerian military forces have pushed insurgents from much of their previously claimed territory over the past year, attacks by the group have been on the rise since June 2017.
