Singapore: “Citizens on Patrol” volunteers in train stations

Singapore Police Force are considering allowing civilian volunteers from the Citizens on Patrol (Cop) program to patrol train stations (MRT stations) and provide some assistance to police. Before their deployment, volunteers would be given additional training by police and would initially be accompanied by officers during their patrols.

Context

This new security initiative comes following a recent rise in crime rates on public transportation. Despite this, travel via public transit in Singapore can still be considered safe.
