A strong aftershock hit the northeastern coast of Venezuela around 09:27 (local time) on Wednesday, August 22. US Geological Survey (USGS) recorded a 5.8-magnitude at around 97 km (60 mi) deep. No major damage or casualties were reported from the aftershock. Similar large aftershocks are possible in the affected area the coming days.
Context
A 7.3-magnitude earthquake shook northeastern Venezuela and neighboring regions on Tuesday, August 21, the country's strongest quake since 1900.
