A tsunami reportedly hit the island of Sulawesi on the evening (local time) of Friday, September 28, following a 7.5-magnitude earthquake that struck at 17:02 (local time), 78 km (48 mi) north of Palu City. According to local sources, the tsunami hit after the tsunami warning had been lifted by local authorities. The earthquake and subsequent tsunami have reportedly caused significant material damage in Palu City and Donggala. Many casualties are feared according to local sources. Details are still emerging.
