Singapore: Drones and aerial activities restricted during the Formula 1 Grand Prix (Sept. 13-16)

Event

Drones and other aerial activities will be temporarily restricted over certain parts of Singapore during the 2018 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. As announced by the authorities, this unusual restriction will extend from ground level to 4,000 feet above sea level on the following dates and times: September 13, 02:30 to 22:30, September 14, 16:00 to 23:00, September 15, 15:00 to September 16, 00:15, and September 16, 17:00 to 23:45. The temporary restrictions are introduced to facilitate low-level helicopter flights coverage during the race.

Context

Flying unmanned aircraft, releasing flight lanterns, kite-flying and hoisting captive balloons are prohibited within the restricted area. The F1 2018 Grand Prix and its different sessions (race, qualifying and practice) run from 14 to 16 September and usually draw thousands of spectators along the race route.

Advice

According to the Singaporean law, conducting unauthorised aerial activities within a temporary restricted area is a serious offence, with culprits exposed to fines of up to S$20,000 (US$ 14,500) for the first offence and jail sentence of up to 15 months for subsequent offences. Individuals present in Singapore are advised to adhere to any instructions issued by local authorities.
