DRC: Nightly movement restrictions in Goma from October 23

Local authorities announce a ban on movement in Goma after 21:00 (local time) following unrest until further notice

On Tuesday, October 23, local authorities announced a nightly ban on all movements within the city of Goma after 21:00 (local time), which will remain in effect until further notice. The measure was implemented following two days of unrest in the districts of Majengo, Mabanga-Nord, Buhene, and Virunga.

On October 22, security forces in Buhene reportedly used live ammunition to disperse demonstrators, who had blocked roads to denounce the eviction of locals from their land. At least two protesters were killed and property damage was reported. On October 23, businesses is the district were closed and gunfire was reported during the evening. Demonstrations were also reported in Virunga and its surroundings on October 23. The unrest reportedly caused panic in several neighborhoods of Goma and affected business activities in the city.
