Police declare hostage situation at Cologne train station under control after arresting suspect October 15; train service remains disrupted

Police in Cologne declared the hostage situation that took place at a pharmacy located within Cologne's central train station "under control" at approximately 15:00 (local time) on Monday, October 15. Authorities indicated they apprehended the suspected hostage taker and freed the hostage, who sustained light injuries. Police reportedly stormed the station's pharmacy, where shots were heard, and "seriously injured" the suspect.

Deutsche Bahn, the national rail operator, has suspended all traffic in and out of the station until further notice.
