Counter protests to be held against PEGIDA rally in Dresden on October 21; associated disruptions expected

The anti-immigrant Patriotic Europeans Against the Islamisation of the West (PEGIDA) organization will hold a rally in Dresden to mark the fourth anniversary of its creation on Sunday, October 21. Participants will gather at 13:30 (local time) at Neumarkt. Counter demonstrations denouncing racism have been called for by civil society groups; they will converge at Postplatz at 15:30. A heightened security presence along with localized traffic disruptions are expected. Clashes between rival protests and/or with security forces cannot be ruled out.
