Italy: Far-right demonstration in Trieste November 3

Far-right group and counterprotesters to stage demonstrations in Trieste on November 3; avoid all protests

Warning

Event

The CasaPound party has announced it will hold a march and rally in Trieste (Friuli-Venezia Giulia region) on Saturday, November 3. Supporters of CasaPound will reportedly gather at Largo Riborgo beginning at 14:00 (local time) and march to the Statua di Don Domenico dei Rosetti, where a rally will be held. Counterdemonstrations by anti-fascist groups are also planned at the Piazza San Giacomo beginning at 15:00. Local officials will restrict traffic and parking in central Trieste for a 48-hour period, from 14:00 on November 2 to 20:00 on November 3.

Authorities may also remove vehicles from the demonstration route and will reportedly require businesses to remove all items from storefronts. The demonstrations are slated to take place one day prior to the visit of President Sergio Mattarella. Heightened security measures, including an increased police presence, and localized traffic disruptions are to be anticipated in Trieste in the coming days. Clashes between rival protesters, as well as between demonstrators and security forces, cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Individuals in Trieste are advised to monitor developments to the situation, avoid all protests and demonstrations as a precaution, and adhere to all instructions issued by the local authorities.
