Jordan: Protests possible after decision to end border deal with Israel

King Abdullah announced on October 21 that a border land lease deal with neighboring Israel would not be extended, two days after protests were held demanding that Jordan reclaim sovereignty over the leased territories. Context

The border agreement, which leases the Jordanian territories of Baqura and Ghumar to Israel for agricultural purposes, is part of a 1994 peace agreement signed between the two countries. The lease agreement was set to be automatically renewed on October 25 before expiring in 2019.
