Tropical Cyclone Luban set to make landfall in Oman on October 10; heavy rain and damaging winds expected
Event
A tropical depression brewing in the Arabian Sea developed into Tropical Cyclone Luban on Monday, October 8. As of Sunday night (local time), the storm was located 1270 km (790 mi) southeast of Salalah. It is currently moving northwest towards the Omani coast and is expected to make landfall on October 10, bringing potentially damaging winds and heavy rainfall to Oman as well as eastern Yemen. Associated transportation disruptions and power outages are possible.
Advice
Individuals in affected areas are advised to monitor local weather reports and adhere to instructions issued by local authorities (e.g. evacuation notices). Remember that walking or driving through running water can be dangerous - 15 cm (6 in) of running water is enough to knock over an adult - and floodwaters can contain wastewater and chemical products; all items having come into contact with floodwater should be disinfected and all foodstuffs discarded.
