Red alerts for rain and snow in various regions of the Andes mountain range October 4-8

The national weather service SENAMHI has issued red alerts, the highest level, for areas throughout the Andes mountain range due to heavy rain and snow forecast from Thursday, October 4, until Monday morning, October 8 (local time). Up to 15 cm (6 in) of snow is expected in some areas, along with localized episodes of hail. The alerts are in place in parts of the following regions: Apurimac, Arequipa, Cusco, Huancavelica, Junín, Lima, Moquegua, Puno, and Tacna. Associated flooding and landslides are possible, along with transportation disruptions and power outages. Lower orange and yellow alerts are in place in various other areas.
