Portugal: Wildfire near Lisbon on October 6-7

Wildfire ongoing in Sintra and Cascais park near Lisbon as of October 7; several hundred firemen deployed to the area

A wildfire broke out on the evening of Saturday, October 6, in the Sintra and Cascais natural park, located 25 km (15 mi) west of Lisbon. According to local sources, 700 firefighters have been deployed to the area to combat the blaze as of Sunday, October 7. Authorities have ordered residents to evacuate in Biscaia, Figueira do Guincho, and Charneca. In addition, the EN-247 highway was closed between Malveira da Serra and Cabo da Roca. Further evacuation notices are possible in the coming hours as efforts to contain the fires continue.
