Ghana: Protest march in Accra November 12

Event

Residents of the Adenta and Madina districts of the capital Accra are planning to hold a march on Monday, November 12, to demand more footbridges over the N4 Madina-Adenta highway, to combat high numbers of pedestrian fatalities. Protesters are expected to gather at the Adenta barrier at 05:00 (local time) and march along the N4 motorway towards the Madina area.

On November 8, protesters blocked the road by burning tires; police fired lived ammunition to disperse them.

According to the government, repair work to finish the uncompleted footbridges, as well as fix traffic signals and street lighting, should start next week.

Context

Over 190 people have reportedly been killed in 2018 trying to cross the highway.
