Madagascar: Political rally in Antananarivo November 10

Presidential candidate Marc Ravalomanana has called for a political rally to be held in the Ambohijatovo area of Antananarivo at 12:00 (local time) on Saturday, November 10. According to local sources, Ravalomanana called for the rally to thank his supporters and to protest alleged irregularities in the November 7 presidential elections. A heightened security presence and associated transportation disruptions are likely in the vicinity of the rally.

Context

The first round of presidential elections was held on November 7. According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), the votes from 1350 polling stations have been counted out of a total of 25,000 stations as of November 8. According to CENI, Andry Rajoelina is currently leading the race with roughly 43 percent of votes followed by Marc Ravalomanana with about 40 percent of votes. A second round of voting will be held on December 19, if necessary.
